Experience, Vision and Passion to Serve Alaska Families
Alaska Family Services Inc., (AFS) seeks a dynamic, visionary leader to serve as its next President/CEO. The President/CEO is the public face of AFS, manages the financial health of the organization, and is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with staff, clients, funders and the community.
The ideal candidate will lead AFS with a deep and authentic vision for overseeing program innovation and expansion, fund development, fiscal management and retention of high performing staff. They will also demonstrate a passion for meeting the needs of families attempting to overcome challenges from substance use disorders, domestic violence and behavioral health issues as well as accessing healthy food and affordable, quality childcare.
With an annual budget in excess of seven million dollars, AFS manages ten major grants supporting more than twenty service lines. With a staff of more than 100, AFS serves in excess of 12-thousand individuals annually with a with a wide spectrum of services focused on the family.
There is an expectation of the new leader to be very visible in the community with the passion and ability to share AFS's mission with other service organizations. There is an opportunity for the new President/CEO to build an internal team of experienced program managers, empowering them with shared leadership responsibilities while also benefiting from continuing education and leadership development training.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide visionary and strategic leadership and translate that vision into measurable strategies and concrete actions that advance the mission.
- Be the face of the organization to the local community and to key audiences at the state and national levels.
- Oversee the business operations of the organization and ensure fiscal responsibility and security.
- Strategically pursue business development opportunities to ensure the continued ability to serve our community.
- Develop and expand strategies for earned revenue, major gifts, and federal and state grants.
- Working with staff, ensure that appropriate programs and services are provided that are consistent with priority needs and organization mission.

The ideal candidate should possess:
- At least five years of progressively increasing senior organization leadership experience.
- A strong financial understanding and management or oversight of a comparably sized budget and staff.
- A team-building, empowering leadership style with a demonstrated history of building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal (staff and Board) and external stakeholders, clients, funders, and community leaders
- Experience with developing and growing an organization (versus sustaining), with a demonstrated track record of growth.
- Relationship developer and sustainer - one who is able to quickly build rapport and trust, and maximizes relationships to continue and grow organization leadership and influence.
- An understanding of branding, marketing, and external relations.
- A compassionate professional who is approachable and possesses a spirit of warmth, humility, and high emotional intelligence.
