Job Summary: As a member of the Conservatory Concerts & Events Team, the Conservatory Communications Manager oversees and implements the internal and external communications plan to elevate the presence of the Conservatory in the region and beyond. This individual will strive to deepen relationships with external constituents, including donors, friends, alumni and community partners, through a strong brand that helps drive enrollment. This position works closely with University Relations for alignment of institutional branding and marketing strategy. Anticipated start date is August 19, 2019.
Essential duties, tasks and responsibilities: The following duties are not to be considered a complete list of duties and responsibilities assigned to this position.
-Design program-based, results-oriented marketing and advertising pieces for the Conservatory as assigned, working within established brand guidelines and coordinating with University Relations (UR), as appropriate.
-Work with UR and content providers in the Conservatory to enhance and update the website in alignment with branding and enrollment initiatives.
-Collaborate with Conservatory Music Technology Specialist/Social Media Manager on content and messaging strategies for Conservatory social media platforms. Oversee student communications/social media interns.
-Collaborate with Communications Coordinator, Community Arts School (CAS) to ensure consistent voice and messaging across all communication channels.
-Enhance design of, edit and supervise the content compilation of weekly internal e-newsletters and monthly external e-newsletters, working to align these communication streams with web, ticketing system and MyBW content.
-Coordinate/participate in content creation and collection for bi-annual CONversation Magazine. Serve as liaison with outside vendors/designers/writers.
-Serve as member of the Conservatory Events Team and Conservatory Communications Task Force.
-Act as Conservatory liaison to establish annual marketing and media plan that fulfills goals in UR and Conservatory Admissions.
-Design collateral materials for Conservatory donor events, select performances, ensemble tours, and Friends of the Conservatory initiatives in collaboration with appropriate administrative staff partners.
-Manage mailing databases and work with Advancement and Alumni Relations staff to maximize efficiency and impact for external e-newsletters.
-Monitor, compile and share inclusion of BW Conservatory/CAS faculty, staff, student and program coverage in media outlets in coordination with UR Media Relations team.
-Serve as the liaison for video and photography shoots within the Conservatory.
-Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field required.
-At least five (5) years of communication or marketing experience.
-Music background and/or experience in an arts environment preferred.
-Project management experience preferred.
-Must be detail-oriented with exceptional oral, written and interpersonal skills.
-Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Social Media applications, ability to use Adobe Creative Suite software a plus, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
-Possession of basic HTML and CSS skills.
-Ability to work independently and prioritize, exercise good judgment, and take initiative. Skills in problem-solving, negotiation, tact and diplomacy
-Ability to maintain a sense of team spirit and humor within a dynamic, challenging and rewarding environment
-Will be required to pass a background check and complete required University compliance training
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Other than some local travel, work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Limited physical effort required. No or limited exposure to physical risk.
