Legal Counsel
Job Purpose/Overview
- Collaborate with Operations, Medicine, Acquisitions, Procurement and others, enables the business to achieve its objectives in a risk-responsible manner by providing high quality counsel and working to find pragmatic and creative solutions for the practice.
- Act as a legal advisor to several cross-functional teams at CTS as well as with external counsel or other stakeholders to provide guidance and legal input.
- Act as the primary contact for negotiation and reviewer of Commercial Contracts; working closely with the commercial leadership team.
- Act as the legal advisor and primary contact for Banfield acquisitions, by drafting documents and negotiating deals.
Key Responsibilities
- Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
- Assist with acquisitions and run point on all legal negotiations and deals.
- Review and negotiate commercial contracts.
- Provide legal input on various cross-functional project teams, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform legal research, analyze risk, and give accurate and timely counsel to stakeholders in a variety of legal topics (veterinary practice, acquisitions, real estate, contracts, etc.).
- Demonstrate general working knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to the practice of veterinary medicine.
- Manage and develop relationships with external legal counsel for work on research and litigation projects.
- Builds relationship with Mars in-house Legal team and participates in departmental initiatives such as centers of excellence and template agreement development.

Job Specifications/Qualifications:
- At least three years of experience in corporate law required.
- Juris Doctorate (JD) is required. Washington license required or eligible for WA in-house counsel license.
- Experience with acquisition contracts required.
- Experience with commercial contracts and real estate preferred.
