The Equity Officer will assist with the monitoring and implementation of policies and initiatives associated with the University’s affirmative action and equal opportunity programs. In addition to serving as the primary university investigator for complaints of discrimination, the Equity Officer will assist the Director of EEO & Compliance with regulatory responsibilities relating to unlawful discrimination, educational equity, and the promotion of diversity and inclusion.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Investigate the resolution of complaints of discrimination filed by students, faculty, administration, staff, and visitors. Plan and conduct objective and timely investigations into complaints alleging discriminatory practices and policies and/or sexual harassment filed with the office and/or external agencies. Prepare written investigatory reports, conduct interviews, compile supporting documentation and interact with internal and external compliance agency officials (as appropriate) on behalf of the Director and institution.
- Facilitates conflict mediations across the university regarding complaints where appropriate. Gauge depth, breadth, and relevance of incident in relation to university sexual harassment, anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policies in addition to EEO/AA laws and regulations.
- Assist with compliance tracking, monitoring, evaluating professional staff recruitment, interviews, candidate selection, and other employment activities to discern their impact on the hiring, promotion and retention of all protected class members. Assist in compliance assessing the performance of colleges, departments, and administrative units toward meeting programmatic goals and timetables; and where indicated, assist department heads and administrators in meeting designed objectives. Assist with reviewing, approving and maintaining data related to hiring and employment processes, and ensure that equal opportunity and affirmative action guidelines are observed.
- Assist with the compliance overview development, implementation, and execution of training, such as search committee orientation sessions, diversity and inclusion, hiring practices and procedures. Assist with reviewing and conducting search orientation/training sessions to university administration, departments, committees, and individuals to ensure university wide compliance with proper procedures. - Monitor policies that support the goals of equal opportunity, equity and affirmative action. Advise on the need for internal review and updating of policies, practices or procedures having impact on programming related to affirmative action, equal opportunity, and equity. Anticipate and prepare for changes in both federal and state laws, bringing new ideas for effective and efficient solutions. Highlight important issues and areas of concern, ensuring that various perspectives on issues are presented accurately and objectively.
- Maintains an updated knowledge of industry regulations and trends related to equity, opportunity, affirmative action, diversity and inclusion, hiring and other terms and conditions of employment related to EEO/AA issues to advise the supervisor and CHRO.
- Manage the EEO/AA/Compliance database and computer resources. Develop and document procedures for collection, compilation, analysis and interpretation of workforce data. Responsible for programming and producing reports. Maintain website as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
- Direct knowledge of state and federal EEO/AA policies, procedures, and laws.
- Knowledge of case studies and legal decisions related to EEO/AA
Bachelor's Degree required in Human Resources, Business, Communications, Public Policy, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Leadership Studies, or any related degrees. Successful candidate must have Bachelor’s degree conferred at the time of application.
The following experience is required:
- 4-6 years’ experience working directly with EEO/AA mediation, investigations, legislation.
- Experience developing an Affirmative Action Plan
- 1 year of database management or related experience preferred
- CAPP preferred
- SHRM-CP preferred
Full-time, Administrative staff position available. Administrative Grade Level 358. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
