Project Coordinator
Position Summary
The TRIO| Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program is a federally funded program designed to prepare talented students who are from disadvantaged backgrounds for doctoral study through involvement in research and scholarly activities. The purpose of the McNair Program is to assist in the academic and professional development of undergraduates whose goals are to teach and research at the college level. The Project Coordinator will coordinate the recruitment, application and selection process of the McNair Scholars program which also includes identifying faculty mentors. This position is responsible for monitoring all activities and collaborative efforts in accordance with the established goals and objectives of the program.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Administration:
- Coordinate and implement student recruitment, application and selection process of student participants
- Coordinate the recruitment of faculty to serve as research mentors for participation in program
- Assist scholars with graduate school application process
- Monitor and maintain program records
- Act as a liaison with other colleges and graduate program faculty
- Chair the McNair Advisory Committee
- Prepare all program reports as appropriate
- Assist with the preparation of data, Annual Performance Reports, and summaries for the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program
- Attend professional meetings, conferences, workshops, and fulfill committee assignments as approved by the director
- Assist with assessment TRIO Programs Assessment efforts for McNair Scholars
- Assist with retention and persistence efforts of McNair participants
Supervision:
- Supervise part-time faculty research mentors (25), undergraduate tutors (4) and two graduate students, one Masters’ student (academic year only) and one graduate student (summer only)
Programming:
- Monitor activities and collaborative efforts in accordance with program goals and objectives
- Develop, plan and conduct various workshops for research, graduate school etc.
- Assist with assessment and evaluation of program
- Coordinate academic year research activities
- Coordinate 8-week Summer Research Institute
- Plan graduate college visits and research conference activities
Advising:
- Advise and monitor the progress of McNair students
- Assist with the development of student Individual Action Plans (IAP) for doctoral study
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
- Knowledge of the graduate school admission and application process
- Knowledge of research design, coordination, presentation, and publications
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures, practices and activities of TRIO or similar programs
- Demonstrated working knowledge in servicing and supporting students with low-income, first-generation and students from underrepresented populations in graduate education
- Knowledge of program design, delivery, assessment and evaluation
- Knowledge of university student information systems such as CSS or similar databases
- Knowledge of principles and methods of organizational and personnel management
- Ability to work with and supervise faculty mentors and staff
- Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for students and assists in achieving the university's core values
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in education, higher education administration, counseling, or a related area. Degree must be conferred at the time of application.
The following experience is required:
- 1 year experience in TRIO Programs (i.e. Upward Bound, Talent Search, Ron E. McNair Foundation, Student Support Services, etc.) or related programs
- 2-3 years in recruiting, advising, or teaching experience in higher education
- 2 years supervisory experience
- 2 years advising in a post-secondary education environment (i.e. Academic, Career, Personal)
Salary
Full-time, Administrative staff position available. Administrative Grade Level 354. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
