Senior Human Resources Representative
Work Schedule:
Full-time position. Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Full benefit package available.
Position Summary
Works under the general supervision of the Director of Human Resources & Benefits performing a wide range of HR Generalist duties with a specialty in the area of employee benefits.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Serves as facilitator/advocate to employees dealing with issues or problems relating to benefits. Provides information and assistance to university wide employees and their covered dependents to assure their understanding of benefits.
- Assist employees with filing retirement and disability retirement applications, as well as coordinate with provisions under the life insurance plans and other benefits.
- Coordinates, schedules, participates in or conducts benefits/retirement orientation sessions to faculty and staff.
- Administers COBRA, Life Insurance benefits, Death Claims and Health Reimbursement Accounts.
- Assist with all activities related to annual open enrollment, including communications, meetings, etc.
- Maintain and create accurate and confidential benefit files pertaining to insurance benefits. Assists with maintaining accurate files for FML and Worker’s Compensation as needed.
- Communicate with third party administrators and benefit providers to maintain accurate eligibility for the University.
- Responsible for periodic data review of benefit plan enrollment counts and accurate premium billings. Responsible for payment of some benefit billings for faculty and staff.
- Obtains prior state service information and maintains current employee records based on information received. Handle any required time off bank adjustments as needed.
- Train in other cross-functional duties within HR; which includes but is not limited to contract loading and employment processes; providing backup and support.
- Runs routine and special reports from PeopleSoft using queries; responsible for entering eligibility into the third party vendor systems when necessary (outside eligibility/ file updates).
- Assists with special Human Resources projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience
- One year related experience
Education
- High school or GED required
Preferred Qualifications
Good working knowledge of health care benefit plans, health care laws (FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA), state funded workers compensation laws, unemployment laws and processes, human resource system (HRS). Good working experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Six months hands-on experience with on-line data entry in a mainframe environment with a high concentration level of accuracy. Excellent communication skills and working with diverse populations. Cooperation with a variety of personnel within office and in other offices. Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks. Excellent phone customer service skills, service orientation, meticulous, precise and possess efficient work habits. Systems orientation: ability to determine how an action will affect other areas; ability to evaluate and learn new software tools for reporting and processing of HR data; ability to thrive in a learning environment.
Salary
Full-time classified staff position. Pay Grade 27/$18.20. Full benefit package available.
