CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR
Plan, coordinate, direct and supervise personnel, subcontractors, and vendors engaged on projects ensuring that they complete the work on time, within budget and to the quality specified. Handle multiple projects while serving as the Cheek Construction representative. In addition, provide estimating services during pre-construction. Is responsible to protect and promote the interest of Cheek Construction in all matters.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership of the Cheek Construction project team.
- Organize the division of work among the Cheek Construction team to effectively build the project.
- Takes ownership of project including final contract budget and is integral to developing the build strategy.
- Ensures compliance with Owner contract requirements through a thorough review and understanding of the contract, assignment of responsibilities among the team, and monitoring of performance/compliance.
- Manage the client relationship and ensures customer advocacy.
- Ensure overall project performance measured by cost, quality, schedule, safety and client satisfaction.
- Problem solve as needed.
Specific duties include:
- Subcontractor / vendor selection
- Calculate the price of time, labor and materials, job specifically, and prepare bid accordingly.
- Calculate the raw materials and tools, work with suppliers to determine the estimated cost for those materials
- Must factor in the number of workers combined with the payment per hour to give an educated estimate of the costs for a project.
- Prepare time charts to determine the length of time and number of workers needed to efficiently complete mass production, taking into account unforeseen circumstances
- Internal reporting, including monthly job cost forecast, and External reporting
- Procurement of permits, bonds & insurance
- Approval and proper cost coding of all subcontractor / vendor payments
- Be available during construction process when unforeseen circumstances might demand a new estimate for materials and manpower
- Preparation of Owner billing, processing of such, and follow up on collections
- Sourcing and Delivery of materials and managing the job site.
- Owner communications, including all change / delay notice
- Oversight of: submittal process, clarification / document control process, schedule management, quality control process, safety program
- Advise dispatcher of needed crews in advance for ongoing projects
- Develop and implement job turnover plan and contract closeout plan
- Facilitate dispute resolution
- Assist with ongoing projects and other duties as needed
Other Duties:
Participate in networking and marketing efforts, participate in presentations and assist in development of proposals. Participate in industry organizations.
Knowledge and experience:
- read and understand complex drawings and blueprints and other construction specifications
- construction technology, building design, architecture, and surveying
- skilled management in keeping team on track with strict timelines with little tolerance for error
- work well with a wide range of people, resolve problems quickly, and share information and experience with staff
