The City of Black River Falls is seeking a Fire Chief with a combination of excellent supervisory skills and extensive knowledge of fire inspection and fire investigation procedures to provide innovative, professional leadership to the City of Black River Falls Fire Department. A successful Fire Chief must be honest, straightforward, and be able to deal transparently and directly with fire and EMS staff, elected officials, other city staff, and the public. Responsibilities include research, planning, training, disciplinary actions, administering fire prevention programs, public relations, developing and administering policies, directing and coordinating all aspects of department operations, administering and preparing the department’s annual operating budgets for both city and rural fire operations, and performing fire inspections and fire scene investigations. Candidates must have completed basic Incident Command System (ICS) training modules and advanced ICs training modules 300 & 400, possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, hold current certification as a Fire Inspector in the State of WI, be certified Firefighter I & II in the State of WI, be a certified WI Emergency Medical Technician or higher or be able to obtain EMT certification within one year of hire, and have extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of fire department administration, fire inspections, fire investigations, and a thorough knowledge of EMS operations and training. Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in the fire service with multiple years in a supervisory / department officer position. Preference will be given to candidates with an Associate’s Degree or higher in fire science or a related field.
