Starting salary: $18.30/hour
Position Purpose:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for aiding the Director of the Douglass Community Recreation Center in preparing, organizing and directing recreation and fitness programs. Work includes routine recreation-related tasks such as scheduling and programming, staff training, organizing and directing recreation and fitness programs. The employee is expected to exercise independent judgment in routine tasks. General and specific instructions will be given by the Director of the Douglass Community Recreation Center with close supervision. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and results obtained.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Working knowledge of the principles and objectives of public recreation administration, the principles of organizing and planning recreational activities; and the equipment and facilities needed in a comprehensive recreation program. The ability to prepare, organize, and direct recreational and fitness programs designed to fulfill the needs of the community; establish and
maintain effective working relationships with associates, municipal officials, and the general public. Skills in communicating both orally and in writing and providing recreational and fitness activities to suit individual and group needs.
Education/Training/Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent, and enrollment in an accredited college or university majoring in Recreation, HPER, (Health, Physical Education, Recreation), or a closely related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
Required Knowledge:
- Must have a Group Fitness and/or Personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization (ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, AFAA, or ISSA)
- Valid certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid
- Experience in teaching/leading group fitness exercise classes and or training clients
