Brief DescriptionJoin our Easterseals NJ team as a Part Time Peer Support Specialist working with program participants in Somerset County!
Drawing on the peer supports own experiences, they will engage the consumer in community-based activities, encouraging and facilitating participation in health and wellness activities that promote community involvement and personal growth. Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring, and updating of the individual rehabilitation plan. Assists other staff in providing a wide range of supportive interventions and practical problem solving to assist consumers in managing community living. Provides other staff with a consumers perspective on the desirability and/or feasibility of difference service planning options.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Uses life experiences to connect and provide support to clients
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifies client resource gaps and problems of service delivery and contributes to the implementation of new ideas and knowledge that improves services and operations.
- Recommends program policies and procedures.
- Participates in meetings, in-service training sessions, quality assurance/utilization and peer review activities and other program activities as assigned; attends supervisory sessions regularly.
- Attends division-funded evidence-based practice trainings (i.e., IMR, WRAP, CSS, Motivational, Educational, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Engagement Strategies etc.) in order to provide consumers with a recovery-oriented system that implements wellness and recovery focused principles.
- Offers consumers therapeutic skills development training with the aim of promoting community integration and restoring the individual to maximum possible functional level by improving functional, social, interpersonal, problem-solving, coping, and communication skills.
- Teaches therapeutic skills development in the physical, cognitive/intellectual, and behavioral skills related to identified goals that leads to increased competence and proficiency.
- Skill teaching in every task or area shall be guided by the following principles and the case manager shall have discussions with the consumers about:
- Assists in the restoration of daily living skills not limited to health and mental health education, money management, maintenance of living environment, personal responsibility, nutrition, menu planning, cooking and grocery shopping, personal hygiene, grooming.
- Assists in social skills development to promote the restoration of appropriate social functioning in various community settings, communication and interpersonal relationships, the use of community services, including cultural and recreational events, and the development of appropriate personal and natural support networks.
- Assists with developing skills related to accessing and using appropriate mainstream medical, dental, and mental health services not limited to making and keeping appointments, preparing questions to ask the doctor, asking an employer for time off to attend a doctors appointment, arranging transportation.

Requirements
- Must have lived experience of having a diagnosis of a mental illness.
- Psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner with one year of experience in a community-based self-help service; Wellness Coach; or Recovery Support Practitioner (Certified Recovery Support Practitioner) plus two years experience in a community-based self-help service or behavioral healthcare training.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel and the general public.
- Willingness to travel
- Possess a valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record with the ability to travel throughout assigned geographical area.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Applicants must be able to navigate Electronic Health Records and be familiar with using a computer.
