- Job Summary: We are looking for a 1st Press Operator (Crew Leader) and 2nd Press Operator who has the jurisdiction over the press line and its press crew. Though not limited to the following, primary responsibilities include running and maintaining the press and folder as well as training and managing others. Regular on time attendance is essential to the function of the position. Reports To: Supervisor and Management
- Production Responsibilities
- Works with crew members in operating the press, folder and auxiliaries, cleaning and maintaining equipment, changing paper rolls, handling plate changes, understand and handle web up/leads of press line and performing other assigned duties. This includes, but is not limited to ensuring maintenance activities are thoroughly accomplished and documented.
- Consistently inspects for and maintains a high level of quality web work. Works with the Supervisor and Management to see all running samples are pulled, inspected, and initialed, Ensure sample copies are of the highest quality.
- Follow all S.O.P.s and works to ensure others on the crew do also. When violations or errors are made, operators are responsible for either informing the Supervisor or training (correcting) the individual as appropriate.
- Accurately enter detailed information regarding job production into Auto count.
- Verify press counts by checking Auto count to the run lists and initial completed Skid Tags as appropriate. Ensure all Auto count computer entries and printouts are accurate, and that all paperwork is complete and placed into job ticket.
- Works to keep the entire press area clean at all times, both during production runs and down time, using the resources of him/herself and others efficiently as well as instructing others on the crew to ensure the daily cleaning/maintenance requirements are efficiently and expeditiously met.
- Ensures safety policies and procedures are met. If it’s while functioning in the Supervisor’s absence, then this would include the activities of all Direct Reports and themselves such as: PPE’s, ergonomics, chemical hazards, etc. and performs these duties in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees. Maintains a rotation among crew members to each workstation on the press.
- Work where directed, be it on varying presses or in other departments.
- At work station 15 minutes before start of shift, and until shift end or when following shift crew is established.
- Administrative Responsibilities either at the Supervisor’s direction or in their absence:
- Assigns or directs the work of crew members. Remember that when assigning work, attempts need to be made to divide tasks equally (considering the limits of each person’s experience and ability.
- Help in the administration of maintenance programs, tasks, and associated paper work. For instance, this includes having all the correct information concerning press runs, paper/ink consumption, and waste information entered into the computer.
- Train crew members.
- Perform performance reviews of subordinates.
- Follow the department’s maintenance program when maintenance is being conducted.
- Read, understand, and follow the entire work order of every job and ensure that all discrepancies are resolved.
- Management of Personnel when the Supervisor is absent:
- Ensures the press has all required resources. This includes everything from print and PPE supplies to personnel and report any shortage of these resources to the Supervisor or Management.

- Continual skills development toward 1st Press Operator

- Job Qualifications:
- Previous web press experience
- Quality conscious and production oriented
- Good at problem solving and making decisions
- Can work without supervision
- Motivated to do the best job possible
- Good with people and possess basic written and oral communication skills
- Mechanically inclined

- Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions to machine set-up.
- Be trained and certified to operate forklift and clamp truck.
- Demonstrate good housekeeping skills.
- Perform physical requirements of the job which include but not limited to the following.
Lifting up to 75 pounds regularly, and/or up to 30 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. The following activities are also required: reach (extending hands and arms in any direction), standing for long periods of time, walking (move about to accomplish tasks), lifting (raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position), grasping (applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm), and repetitive motion (substantial moving of arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers) is required.
