School Psychologists
Frederick County Public Schools is a successful school system in a diverse and growing community. Frederick County bridges rural, suburban, and urban lifestyles near both the Washington, DC and Baltimore metropolitan communities. Our current student population is approximately 43,000 and we serve students with varying needs, including special education services (11%), English Learners (8%), and Free and/or Reduced Meal Services (26%). FCPS has 67 schools: 37 elementary; 13 middle; 10 high; 3 public charter; an alternative school; a special education school, Flexible Evening High and a Career and Technology Center.
FCPS understands the importance of addressing mental health issues and has created additional school psychology positions to address this need. School Psychologists are administrators working 11 and 12 months. - Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Professional Certificate with an endorsement for School Psychologist.
- Master's Degree in School Psychology or Clinical Psychology.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Conceptual, interpersonal, and social skills necessary for position performance.
- Demonstrates advanced skills and knowledge in gathering and using data to monitor student progress.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of nationally recognized professional standards for school psychologists.
- Possess advanced knowledge of multi-tiered prevention and intervention strategies.
- Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP).
- Essential Functions:
- The School Psychologist provides support to students to help them succeed academically, socially, and emotionally, while considering federal and state school law, and MSDE and FCPS policies and regulations.
- School Psychologists will collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to help create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home and school
Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Psychological Services, the School Psychologist performs the following duties:
Essential Functions
- Utilize knowledge of best practices to promote learning and mental health (e.g., response to intervention and positive behavioral interventions and supports).
- Provide professional learning to school communities relevant to identified needs.
- Provide individual and group counseling services to students based on evidence-based strategies to promote social- emotional functioning and mental health.
- Provide crisis intervention.
- Participate on Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Student Services Teams.
- Use various data, including social emotional, behavioral, and psychological assessments, to identify student strengths and needs and provide support in developing effective services and programs for students.
- Consult and collaborate with colleagues, students, families and other professionals to promote effective implementation of academic, mental health and behavioral services and interventions.
- Apply knowledge of principles related to resilience and risk factors in learning and mental health to support multi-tiered prevention and strategies for effective crisis response.
- Participate on departmental, school, system-wide, and state level committees to support student learning and positive mental health.
- Support the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) process.
- Collaborate with professionals outside of the school system to support student learning and mental health.
