Executive Director (Remote Friendly)
Summary: The Executive Director serves as the Chief of Enthusiasm and Optimism (CEO) of Gems of Hope. They are the most visible and clear embodiment of the organization's values and mission. They provide overall leadership for the organization in accordance with the mission, vision, policies and objectives and will help develop a long-range strategy to support the direction, health and growth of the organization. The Executive Director is responsible and accountable to the Board of Directors and must be open to accountability from stakeholders.
Leadership
- Articulate the vision, mission, overall strategy, and direction of the organization
- Build alignment across the organization
- Create a culture to foster success
- Develop rapport with workshop volunteers and Board members
Public Relations
- Serve as the face of the organization, providing positive visibility and demonstrating a clear embodiment of organizational values and commitment of the organization in the community
- Develop and cultivate strong relationships among donors, corporate entities, and peers in the Corridor
- Ensure that Gems of Hope maintains visibility in the area and beyond through public speaking, presentations, workshops and appropriate public functions and media events
- Oversee all content in newsletters, press releases, advertisements and social media
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders and the community in the form of mailings, newsletters, and annual reports
Fund Development
- Implement fundraising strategies that support the mission and vision of the organization and create a culture of “asking” for financial support
- Research available funding sources and apply for grants to augment fundraising efforts; administer funded grants to achieve performance and ensure reporting compliance
- Responsible for personally presenting to and securing/closing major donations
- Support fundraising events
Financial
- Create and understand financial documents including budgets, cash flow, income statements, balance sheet statements and statements of functional expenses
- Oversee completion and timely submission of legal and tax documents
- Administer fiscal control, accountability, budget reporting; oversee all daily expenditures
- Ensure Gems of Hope stays in compliance with all laws and regulations; create a system to monitor this
- Work concurrently with the financial committee to develop an annual budget
- Ensure monthly financial statements are provided to the Board of Directors
Recruitment and Training
- Recruit appropriate community members to serve on the Gems of Hope Board of Directors and committees
- Implement new Board Member orientation
- Help build, sustain and strengthen all Board functions (i.e. meetings, policy compliance and committee work)
- Arrange training opportunities for staff and committee members and oversee training for volunteers
- Assist in growing the volunteer base as necessary to implement programming
Administration
- Develop and implement financial, operational and administrative programs that support the mission
- Ensure organization has proper tools in place for fundraising, collaboration, document creation and storage, communication, productivity, and record keeping
- Understand and ensure the organization follows all local, state, and federal rules
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors and appropriate committees to develop and implement policies and procedures that support the mission and vision
- Administer and manage daily office operations including hiring, performance evaluations and termination of paid staff
- Collaborate with Board of Directors for all proposed employee salaries
- Attend Board meetings and provide Executive Director reports
- Be available for volunteers and donors during set office hours
Executive Director Candidate Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Management, Human Services Management, Non-profit Management, Business Administration, related area, or equivalent experience
- 2-3 years experience in a leadership role
- Minimum of 5 years experience in fund development
- Experience in financial and administrative management, marketing and communication
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills
- Experience working with endowments
- Proficient use of computer and standard business software (i.e. Donorview and Quickbooks)
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
