R&D Scientist-Wireless Communication (comm) & Edge Computing, Warren, MI, General Motors. Research, design, develop, & implement vehicular wireless communication systems in empirical prototyping systems. Implement research ideas in functioning wireless prototypes on research vehicles. Improve Physical Layer (PHY) & Medium Access Control (MAC) layer of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) vehicular communication protocols including DSRC, LTE-V2X, & 5G New Radio, to enable fast & reliable communication for latency sensitive vehicular safety applications. Design & implement sensor data fusion such as GPS, radar, Ultrasonics, &cameras, & related signal processing techniques including Kalman & Particle filters, & Neural Networks, to improve efficiency & reliability of future connected autonomous vehicles (AVs). Design &implement cloud & mobile edge computing enhanced data mining & machine learning algorithms to improve perception, localization, & mapping capabilities of AVs. Design & implement machine learning algorithms to enable advanced cooperative-awareness using crowd-sensed data from connected vehicles & infrastructure. Design & perform field experiments for channel measurement, channel characterization, & channel modeling of V2X & Vehicle-to-Network including 5G cellular massive MIMO &mmWave communication systems. Required U.S. & international travel to attend conferences, vehicular wireless communications & networking systems technical & safety international standards meetings, GM facilities for technical collaboration, & field testing of prototyped systems in vehicles approximately 6 weeks per year. PhD, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related. 12 months experience as Engineer, Researcher, or Graduate Research Assistant, improving PHY & MAC layer of existing communication protocols, & designing sensor data fusion, such as GPS, radar, Ultrasonics, cameras, & related signal processing techniques including Kalman & Particle filters, & Neural Networks, or related.
