Mortgage Loan Officer
Summary:
Responsible for a wide range of duties relating to the origination of residential 1st mortgage loans from various outside sources including but not limited to realtors, builders, financial professionals and past borrowers. Assumes overall responsibility for the residential mortgage loan from application to closing.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and weekend work as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain knowledge of available loan products, processing procedures, underwriting, credit union and secondary investor guidelines.
- Assist with any type of loan application method an applicant prefers: internet, phone, personal meeting.
- Interview loan applicant, complete application, obtain credit report, investor underwriting response and review information to request and collect specific support documents needed based on loan investor guidelines.
- Collect, examine and evaluate borrower’s financial and personal data in order to counsel and recommend appropriate residential lending products.
- Deliver a complete loan application file to processor for ordering of appraisal, flood, employment/income verification and mortgage insurance.
- Correspond, communicate and coordinate with applicants, in-house support staff and outside service providers to facilitate timely loan processing, decisions and closings.
- Order title search, review title commitment for requirements and exceptions, schedule close, prepare and deliver timely regulatory disclosures to borrower and closing document package and instructions to title company. Attend closings whenever possible.
- Prepare Home Equity line-of-credit package when closing with 1st mortgage.
Additional Responsibilities
- Cross-sell all products/services of the credit union to members at every opportunity. This responsibility is critical to the success of the credit union.
- Call potential and existing members regarding current promotions on products/services available at the credit union.
Qualifications:*
- Four-year bachelor’s degree in business with one year experience preferred or two-year associates degree with three years’ experience or five year experience of mortgage lending origination of conforming residential mortgage loans underwritten to FNMA and a strong desire to sell credit union products.
- Must have ability to network with referral sources, i.e., realtors, CPAs, etc.
- Knowledge of federal and state lending regulations governing real estate lending.
- Must have an established book (local referral sources) of business.
- Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills necessary for servicing credit union members and projecting a positive image as a representative for the credit union.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must have certified NMLS ID number.
- Notary Public license
