Director Risk Management/Staff Attorney
Responsible for HHCS and Affiliates' risk management activities, which include coordinating insurance coverage and risk financing, managing claims and System-wide performance improvement in coordination with Affiliate risk management liaisons, administering the Risk Management Program on a day-to-day basis, managing, and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management educational programs and facilitating compliance with the Joint Commission's risk management standards, all with the objective of controlling and minimizing loss to protect the assets of HHCS. Assists in providing legal guidance to HHCS management on a wide array of issues to facilitate the operations of HHCS and Affiliates. Assists with outside legal counsel interaction and coordination. Assists in identifying and communicating regulatory requirements to applicable departments and Affiliates. Assists in identifying and implementing measures to bring effective legal services to HHCS and Affiliates. Responsible for analysis of various legal contracts and related documents on behalf of HHCS and Affiliates. Assists in the coordination all liability claims, litigation, mediations, and settlement disputes of legal risks. Supervises Risk Management Coordinator in the administration of the Risk Management Program.
Education: Undergraduate degree in health-related field preferred and a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required. Bachelor's of Science in nursing a plus.
Licensure: Georgia Bar License. RN a plus.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years' legal experience required with health care, insurance and litigation experience preferred.
Skills: Management and communication skills required. Must be able to handle high degree of detail and be able to manage a number of ongoing projects at the same time. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors and associates within HHCS. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with system staff, business, industry, community and other professional groups. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to express ideas logically, cogently and persuasively both orally and in writing.
