Probation Officer - Full Time
Hancock County Common Pleas Court Adult Probation Department is seeking a full time Probation Officer. This position will assist an extremely busy division of the Court in supervising defendants reporting to the Adult Probation Department and enforcing compliance with Court ordered conditions both in the field and office settings. This position is responsible for utilizing various cognitive behavioral treatment and punitive interventions. This position will also be required to prepare multiple investigations for the Court and other duties as assigned. B.A., B.S. or Associates Degree in Corrections, Law Enforcement, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field; valid Ohio Driver’s License; ability to obtain and maintain departmentally established level of proficiency in the use of firearms; Ohio Risk Assessment tool and at least 21 years of age. Candidate must have strong oral, written and computer communication skills. Candidate must exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence. Additional preferred skills include critical thinking, decision-making, organizational skills, manage a caseload of individuals with felony convictions to successful closure. Change agent oriented and emotional stability. Prior experience as a probation officer, substance abuse counseling, and/or mental health, case management and current OPOTA peace officer commission is strongly preferred. Candidate must have or be able to obtain Certifications in ORAS, Thinking for a Change, EPICS, Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Substance Abuse Treatment and Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. Hancock County or contiguous county resident is required as occasional evening and weekend surveillance and electronic monitoring duties are required. Applicants must successfully take and pass a written exam, criminal background check, employment background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
