SUMMARY
The Navigator Recovery Specialist / Certified Peer Recovery Specialist is a team member who will work within the hospital's emergency department at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System to engage individuals who have recently overdosed and provide direct assistance with linkage to substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, and recovery support services. The CPRS must be available on call to provide brief and immediate intervention for individuals who come into the emergency department for treatment of opioid overdose and/or revived by naloxone. The CPRS will utilize their personal recovery to help others, promote self-determination, personal responsibility, and empowerment to motivate individual to seek treatment. The CPRS will use a harm reduction and continual engagement model as well as motivational interviewing along with personal experience to increase readiness for change. The CPRS will supply literature and information on community services in the area and provide appropriate education and linkage to needed services.
This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
REQUIREMENTS
Education/Knowledge: Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, be a State of Tennessee Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, or have completed the following to be eligible for state certification:
1. Attended the 5 day training facilitated by State Certified Trainers
2. Gained 75 hours of work or volunteer experience in Peer Recovery Services
Bachelor's degree in human services, addictions, counseling, or related field.
Experience: Must be a primary co-occurring disorders consumer with appropriate life experience and a desire to be a role model for recovery. Experience with utilizing Motivational Interviewing and peer counseling is preferred. Some experience in customer service helpful. One year of supervisory experience is preferred. A valid driver's license with an F endorsement is a job requirement.
Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity. Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation.
Physical: Possible exposure to biological hazards. Hearing of normal and soft tones. Close eye work. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs., frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. This position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, and going down on knees, running and walking. Must be capable of assisting in utilizing non-violent methods of crisis intervention including therapeutic holding. Must be certified in First Aid, CPR (adult, child, infant), and AED use or be capable of becoming certified. Must have the ability to document in the Electronic medical record using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
COMPENSATION: Salary range for this position starts at approximately $12.88 per hour depending on relevant experience and education.
