Legal Assistant
Jackson County is seeking applications to fill the full-time position of Legal Assistant in the County Attorney's Office. The Legal Assistant provides technical and administrative legal support to the County Attorney and Assistant County Attorney to assist them in the efficient and accurate completion of their legal work. Work also includes coordination of victim and witness assistance programs. The position requires significant computer skills, a consistent, detail-oriented approach, analytical thinking, and great people skills. This position also requires the highest level of confidentiality and discretion. Attention to detail will be critical for a candidate to be successful in this position.
Minimum Requirements: Graduation from high school, or equivalent, plus two years of post-secondary education in law-related studies or administrative assistant/secretarial training and at least one year of related experience, or equivalent; Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, be able to type at least 55 wpm with 100% accuracy rate, be able to communicate effectively and accurately, orally and in writing, have good public relations skills, and a valid MN driver's license. Desired Qualifications: Paralegal or legal assistant degree or two years of college-level coursework in law related studies and/or legal secretary training; experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and Access, MNCIS/MGA, and various Records Management Systems.
This position is classified in Grade 9 of the County Compensation Plan with a full pay range of $18.49 - $24.03 per hour. Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications, but is usually within the hiring range of $18.49 - $19.72 per hour. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week with a competitive benefits package, including PERA pension contributions.
