Job Description: Upper Kanawha Valley Business Coach
Background: The Kanawha County Commission has been awarded a one-year grant to provide assistance to businesses located in the Upper Kanawha Valley (UKV), defined as everything east of Charleston from Marmet on the south side of the Kanawha River and from Malden on the north side to Montgomery and Smithers. The grant is part of an overall UKV business assistance program that the county has put in place that includes forgivable loans, business coaching and technical assistance. As a result of this grant funding, the county is seeking to retain the services of a part time, contractual business coach.
Job Duties: The Business Coach provides high-quality coaching to entrepreneurs and business owners by analyzing situations and educating clients with regard to business plans, market feasibility and cash management. The coach will provide general business coaching to recipients of the county's forgivable loan program, existing businesses, and other start-up companies.
Services will include but not be limited to: strategic planning, business plan development, loan packaging, identifying and developing training programs for increasing business skills, developing and maintaining personal contacts with lenders and other sources of business financing; interpretation of financial statements; and keeping up to date on entrepreneurial and business trends. Term of Service The county is seeking to enter into a 12-month contract with a business coach to provide 500 hours of service, equating to an average of 10 hours per week. The selected contractor will be required to pay for their own travel, and other overhead expenses which are anticipated to be minimal.
Qualifications:
Qualifications include the ability to perform work to assist in the creation and expansion of small businesses and conduct education and training for small businesses. It is preferred that the qualified applicant have at least 10 years of experience in banking, business administration, economic development, or the ownership/operation of a successful business enterprise. A college degree in a relevant subject matter is preferred, although not required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. A valid driver's license is required.
