Community Court Coordinator

Scope of Responsibility
King County District Court is expanding court services to include access to the judiciary through implementation of a Community Court system by hiring a Community Court Coordinator. The Community Court Coordinator will be the lead planner responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Community Court services. This person will be expected to become acquainted with agency, County, State, and court policies, procedures, and regulations. The successful candidate must be able to effectively partner with community stakeholders to promote District Court and Community Court.
King County District Court Profile
KCDC is the largest court of limited jurisdiction in the State of Washington. It is currently responsible for processing over 200,000 matters per year with 25 judges and approximately 260 employees in eight locations. KCDC is a leader in many areas involving public safety and access to justice, including the use of problem-solving courts, jail alternative programs, and judge-managed probation services. Twelve cities contract with KCDC for judicial services.
Work location will be throughout the District Court system, but mostly in Auburn.- Job Duties
- Assist in the planning and implementation of a new community court and resource center.
- Serve on multiple planning work groups.
- Identify and coordinate social service agencies to participate in community court resource center.
- Coordinate with treatment providers to track and report on community court participants.
- Coordinate with non-profit agencies to connect court participants with community service opportunities.
- Troubleshoot and problem solve with respect to the court's daily activities and operations. Coordinate with facilities in which court is held.
- Coordinate service and treatment needs assessments for defendants and other court populations.
- Coordinate screening intake services.
- Promote, develop, and maintain relationships with residents, schools, police, government, not-for-profit agencies, and community organizations.
- Work with providers of court participants to obtain updated progress reports to the court.
- Maintain accurate data about the program and its participants for formal reporting to various agencies, and for presentations for stakeholders and interested parties.
- Work with judge and project staff to develop both new policies and procedures, and new therapeutic incentives and responses.
- Coordinate community outreach efforts.
- Recruit and manage a team of volunteers for community court.
- Speak/present to individuals, agencies and groups about community court.
- Coordinate efforts of court, Community Court unit, and social service providers to maximize effectiveness of court operations, sentences, and compliance monitoring.
- Perform related work as required.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of city and county agencies and community-based organizations including local social services.
- Ability to plan, to delegate, and to coordinate work.
- Ability to identify needs, to develop long-range plans, and to evaluate results.
- Knowledge of problem-solving court models and case-management approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly express and present ideas and recommendations orally and in writing to a wide audience including stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively work with people with differing cultural, ethnic, and lifestyle backgrounds.
- Willingness and ability to accept assignments in various office locations throughout the county.
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others including co-workers, supervisors, judges, and staff members from public and private agencies.
- Ability to maintain regular, consistent, and predictable attendance.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including a personal computer.
Special Requirements:- Bachelor's or master's degree, preferably in social work, public policy or a related field, three years work experience in the court system, and at least one year of policy development and/or project management experience.
- Successful candidate must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
