Business Development and Partnerships Section Manager - Special Duty

We are seeking a Section Manager to direct the Business Development and Partnerships Section, which is responsible for generating revenue, creating efficiencies, and communicating about and promoting recreational opportunities in King County's parks and trails. This position will lead several work units including teams that create partnerships and distribute grants for new recreation; teams that work to raise approximately $5 million in business revenues; and a team that spearheads external communications, marketing, public engagement and events. This role involves daily interaction with staff at all levels of the organization including elected officials and agency stakeholders, and provides leadership to 17 staff in the section.

Work schedule: This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay. The core work hours are normally 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Examples of Job Responsibilities:- Provide daily oversight and management of the Parks Business Development and Partnerships Section. Implement and promote goals, vision, workforce management, performance measures and standards, and strategies for the section.
- Timely and accurate decision making skills in a wide variety of situations.
- Solving complex internal and external customer service issues with tact and diplomacy and working effectively with a broad and diverse customer base.
- Manage negotiations with internal and external customers.
- Cultural awareness with the ability to manage a vibrant and diverse workforce.
- Demonstrated track record of conceptualizing, developing and implementing strategies, systems, standards, and plans for a variety of functions.
- Ensure that work in the section is accomplished effectively and efficiently; advise Division leadership of any issues. Prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Develop, coach and mentor a culturally and generationally diverse staff in a collaborative manner that focuses on employee engagement, good communication, and team building.
- Develop and effectively maintain relationships with department and division directors, senior managers and other agency partner staff throughout the County.
- Develop, approve and monitor annual work plan and budget for the section, including long and short term planning and scheduling. Determine priorities for annual investments for park maintenance, recreation and aquatics.

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact in an effective and positive manner with employees, peers, supervisors, customers and County officials.
- Ability to facilitate in-person or virtual conversations with a range of audiences, highlighting the strengths and common goals of multiple perspectives for projects or initiatives that are politically sensitive or have significant political implications.
- Skill in negotiations with strong ability to navigate tough situations with both internal and external groups.
- Knowledge of current trends in corporate and charitable giving, particularly in the areas of public-private partnerships, sponsorships, and cause-related marketing.
- Skill in making presentations and convincing others to initiate action(s)
- Skill in oral and written communication techniques and principles
- Skill in managing highly visible and politically sensitive projects or contracts
- Skill in making timely and quality decisions
- Ability to synthesize information and make recommendations and/or decisions within and outside of established policies and procedures
- Ability to work with individuals in diverse work occupations and develop a collaborative and effective team environment
- Prior experience supervising a diverse and professional team or group

Special Requirements: This position will require occasional travel to Parks sites and related locations. The person hired into this position will need a valid Washington Driver License (or ability to obtain one upon hire), or alternative ability to travel in a timely manner to various locations on short notice including to sites which may not be served by public transportation.
