Communications Manager - Superior Court
- Summary
King County Superior Court seeks a Communications Manager who will serve as the public information officer (PIO) for the Court and support the Court's vision of increasing public understanding of the Court's core values.
The responsibilities of this position include managing, planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the communications program for the Court. Manage communications to provide external and internal communications, media relations and/or public involvement. Serve as primary point of contact for media. May serve as designated spokesperson for the Court, presenting official statements to the media on behalf of the Presiding Judge and/or Chief Administrative Officer.

WORK LOCATION AND SCHEDULE: This position is located at the King County Courthouse, 516 Third Avenue, in Seattle. The incumbent may be required to work at other court facilities. This is a full-time, FLSA - exempt position and is not eligible for overtime. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. but hours may vary. This position is at-will.

The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level.
- Manage internal and external communications, including print, media, web, social media, public relations or other areas.
- Develop, manage, and execute strategic plans for internal and external communications, including public outreach.
- Manage media relations functions for the Court and serve as principal spokesperson as needed.
- Develop informational materials, press releases, social media content, speeches and other public communications that promote the Court's mission.
- Organize press conferences and other public events. Staff the Court's community outreach committee. Assist with strategic outreach events planning, coordination and promotion.
- Prepare and conduct communications training for judicial officers and staff.
- Track and measure the effectiveness of programs and communication tools.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications or a related field. Juris Doctor (Law degree) and/or experience in a legal-services environment is helpful.
- At least five years' experience in communications or a related field.
- Excellent writing and editorial skills, including development of original content and the ability to construct concise and well-written narratives.
- Professional experience in the use of social media tools.
- Demonstrable strategic planning experience within the communications field.
- Highly developed listening and public speaking skills.
- Creative thinker, capable of introducing new and better ways to deliver the Court's message.
- Skill in thinking strategically and in exercising sound judgment.
- Able to organize and prioritize work, adapt to changes in work load demands, multi-task and follow through.
- Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite applications.
- Knowledge of local government and the political process is a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Finalists must successfully pass a reference check and a criminal background check. Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license or be able to travel throughout the County by alternate means.
