About the Position: DAJD is accepting applications to fill one (1) full-time Community Surveillance Officer position. DAJD is seeking highly qualified applicants interested in making a difference for justice involved youth and their families. The Community Surveillance Officer (CSO) works with youth and their families to ensure successful compliance with court orders and program completion. The CSO plays a crucial role in achieving King County's goal of providing safe alternatives to secure detention which contributes to the Zero Youth Detention Roadmap.

- Job Duties
- Monitor youth at home, school, work, in person and by telephone to ensure compliance with court orders and curfews.
- Monitor, supervise and program youth that report to DAJD's Alternatives to Secure Detention (ASD) programs.
- Develop, present and apply age appropriate curriculum for youth in ASD programs.
- Coordinate and collaborate with community programs and services as they relate to youth schedules and conditions of placement in the Electronic Home Monitoring (EHM) Program.
- Assist youth in meeting goals by reviewing files, court orders and contracts with them and their parents to ensure understanding, consistency and agreement.
- Discuss and address behavioral issues and program compliance with youth and notify appropriate stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of daily contact with youth, families, and appropriate stakeholders.
- Account for electronic monitoring equipment, enter/update files in computer, approve curfew exceptions, and hook up EHM equipment in home.
- Travel to various County locations in a timely manner.
- Work effectively in multi-cultural environments such as schools, family homes, and with community stakeholders using outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills and a non-judgmental, positive, problem-solving attitude.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences, law and justice or related field; OR,
- Four (4) years of work experience in a community or correctional facility interacting with juvenile offenders or delinquent, physically aggressive youth or gangs; OR,
- Equivalent combination of the required education and experience.

LOCATION: Juvenile Detention Services, 1211 E. Alder, Seattle, WA.
WORK SCHEDULE: The normal workday is eight and one-half hours (1/2 hour lunch). This position is overtime eligible, provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Work hours for this position vary between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Examples of schedules are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The individual selected for this position must be available to work a schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Finalists selected for this position must successfully complete a thorough background investigation process, including fingerprinting, police checks, a lie detection evaluation, reference checks, psychological testing and evaluation. A valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to travel throughout the County in a timely manner is also required.
