The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans invites applications and nominations for Head of the Department of Psychiatry. This position is responsible for overseeing the faculty, staff and residents in the Department of Psychiatry and advancing the educational, clinical and research missions of the department and the School of Medicine. The department head will report directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine and work closely with the leadership of University Medical Center-New Orleans, Children's Hospital New Orleans, community clinics and other locations at which the department faculty provide clinical services. Incumbent will also work with other clinical and basic science department heads and have the opportunity to work with directors of our multidisciplinary centers of excellence: the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center, Neuroscience Center, Cancer Center, and Cardiovascular Center.
The successful applicant must have good leadership abilities, effective communication skills, demonstrate a commitment to education and biomedical research, and provide a vision of excellence for the Department. A record of achievements in clinical service, teaching, multi-disciplinary collaborative research, administration and faculty mentorship are essential. The ability to promote an inclusive environment is highly valued. The successful candidate will also work with the departmental staff and dean's office administration, the faculty group practice (LSU HealthCare Network) personnel, and the staff and administration of various hospital and clinic entities to maintain and expand the department's clinical activities.

Required Qualifications:
- MD, or MD/PhD, or equivalent
- Board Certified in Psychiatry or be actively enrolled in the maintenance of certification program
- Licensed to practice Medicine in the State of Louisiana before hire date
- At least 10 years of experience on the faculty of a medical school, and have obtained rank of Associate Professor or Professor
- Must have achieved distinction in the areas of clinical practice, education and program administration
