Summary of Duties
Manage the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Plan and initiatives. Research, develop, recommend, and execute creative strategies to meet DEI goals. Create, assist, and administer programs and initiatives designed to enhance DEI goals. Serve as the lead for the DEI Task Force Committee. Establish metrics and benchmarks to measure progress of DEI goals. Review current practices and policies to ensure they support and don't hinder DEI goals. Collect and analyze statistical data to evaluate the workforce in accordance with diversity standards and DEI goals. Create an outreach strategy to encourage a pipeline of talent for the organization with a focus on diversity. Develop and implement, in partnership with HR staff and other departments, DEI practices and processes in areas related to recruitment, selection, hiring, onboarding, training/education, promotions, compensation, day to day work environment, and internal activities and communications.
Establish relationships with groups such as: DEI professional organizations, colleges/universities, and student organizations for recruitment purposes. Represent organization at diversity programs and events. Partner with industry diversity councils, work groups, and community partners. Conduct effective, thorough, timely, and objective complaint investigations related to discrimination. Conduct interviews, gather witness statements, review documents and other relevant materials. Prepare written report of findings and recommendations. Oversee compliance with Non-Discrimination and Harassment Policy, and other applicable policies/regulations (i.e. Affirmative Action, ADA, etc.). May need to partner and work with ADA Coordinator. Maintain awareness of regulations relating to non-discrimination, and diversity related issues, legislation and best practices. Ensure compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, laws, policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements (including Affirmative Action and ADA programs).
Partner with legal department and ADA Coordinator as needed and/or required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated commitment to DEI and cultural competency in working with diverse populations. Understanding of recruitment methods and sources, and diversity plans. Knowledge of human resource practices, rules, laws, and regulations in relation to public employment. Knowledge of working in a union environment, labor relations, and collective bargaining agreements. Ability to demonstrate sound judgement, handle large work volume, and discretion when dealing with sensitive and/or confidential issues. Effective skills in organization, attention to detail, problem-solving, follow up, time management, verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
Skilled in using computer software applications. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships. Ability to evaluate pertinent facts, determine impact and make recommendations, think creatively, take initiative, and plan and support complex projects. Adherence to the principles of good management practices as outlined in the "Expectations for Effective Leadership and Management Practices."
Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Business Administration or closely related field. Masters preferred. Four (4) years of experience in human resources including two (2) years of relevant DEI experience, two (2) years of recruitment experience, and one (1) year in a management or supervisory capacity. Certified Diversity Professional (or equivalent) preferred.
