Memory Gardens, the capital Region’s premiere cemetery and memorial park, is seeking an Executive Director with proven leadership experience to lead this $8 million not-for-profit organization. The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring the Gardens remains true to its mission of providing pastoral beauty, solemnity and dignity for all.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will oversee Memory Gardens’ daily administration, supervise and coach our staff of 15 and manage all programs and services. Other key duties include:
- Creating an annual budget using sound fiscal management practices to ensure the cemetery remains in a strong financial position.
- Establishing and maintaining a thorough understanding of New York State Cemetery Rules and Regulations.
- Maintaining a strong relationship with the New York State Division of Cemeteries.
- Serving as primary spokesperson.
- Communicating effectively with all stakeholders.
- Creating and executing marketing plans and community outreach efforts.
- Reviewing and approving contracts for services.
The successful candidate will have:
- An advanced degree, ideally an MBA, with at least 10 years of senior management experience. Consideration may be given to candidates with equivalent experience in lieu of academic requirements. Previous cemetery management experience preferred but not required.
- Excellent managerial skills, with the proven ability to effectively develop staff and achieve strategic objectives.
- In-depth knowledge of employee relations, salary administration and benefit planning.
- Strong budget management skills including experience setting sales and pricing strategies, vendor purchasing, budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
- Ability to develop and manage an annual capital and maintenance plan to ensure Memory Gardens’ property continues to be maintained at the highest standards.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service in a retail or commercial setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a volunteer board of directors.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Sage 50 Accounting preferred.
The Salary range will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits package includes health and retirement options.
