Safety Screener and Monitor
Summary: This position provides COV19 screening to everyone (associates, providers, vendors, visitors, etc.) that enter the healthcare facility each day, screening questions, recording responses, taking temperatures, and providing additional instructions to the patient and/or associate per current COV19 safety and procedure guidelines. This position will be cross trained to perform specific duties to enhance efficiency and continuity of patient care delivery specific to continuous patient safety observation identified to be at risk specifically age-related, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. This position function under the supervision of the registered nurse in providing general patient care in accordance with the individualized needs of the patient, and the standards of practice. This position requires cooperative work that demonstrates flexibility, motivation, and commitment to quality patient care. Communicates relevant patient information to supervisors, coordinators and nursing staff for prompt consideration and concern resolution. This position is tasked to handle visitor, patient, and team member interactions, tracking and documentation, and patient safety duties.
Essential Job Functions: Explain to all personnel the purpose of the temperature screening at point of entry. Provide temperature screen/monitor for all individuals entering the healthcare facility. Should a person be identified by the screening assessment to be a suspected COV19 case, follows all protocols established. Contacts appropriate management personnel if difficulty ensues. Practice appropriate health and safety protocols in accordance with BSMH COV19 guidance. Follows all requirements related to personal protective equipment, cleaning of work station, and social distancing practices. Complies with HIPAA guidelines at all time. Safely dispose of all disposable PPE including single use items such as gloves; and manage all clinical waste and ensure it is disposed of properly. Ensures a secure and safe environment by maintaining a continued awareness of safety hazards and observation of the patient Provides general patient care companion duties that are specific to the patient(s) served as directed by the registered nurse. Contributes to the patient plan of care through the documentation of communication of patient needs and outcomes to the health care provider as appropriate. Provides diversionary activities - verbally directly or through 2-way audio device or by activating an alarm. Accompany patient on walks and/or provides transportation services to any clinical tests or procedures. Assists patient with basic hygiene needs and ADLs (this may include, but is not limited to, vital signs, bathing, feeding, toileting, and ROM.) Always ensures patient safety with an unobstructed view and continuous visual contact of the patient. Documents and communicate to nursing staff patient activity, behaviors, and interventions per department policy Provides additional screening/monitoring assignments of patients and staff as assigned. Patient safety companions will arrange meal and break time with the patient's nurse to ensure that the patient is never unattended. Adheres to all standards and policies of Bon Secours Mercy Health. Education/Licensure: Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
Licensure/Certification Required: Current BLS Certification or acquire within 30 days
Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant

Physical Requirements: Lifting/Carrying 0-100lbs, Push/Pull 0-100lbs, Stooping, Kneeling, Balance, Bending, Sitting, Walking, Standing. Manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination), Hear alams/telephone/tape recorder, reach above shoulder, color vision, acuity - far, acuity - near. Hazards - Depth perception, use of Latex Gloves, exposure to dust/fumes, exposure to high pitched noises.
