Lead Legal Support Specialist
Background: Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (Legal Aid) provides a full range of free civil legal services to low-income persons, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities. Legal Aid is supported by funding from the State of Minnesota, the federal government, local governments, the United Way, foundations, local law firms and corporations, etc. Legal Aid enjoys a good rapport with, and strong support from, the organized bar. Legal Aid does not receive funds from the Legal Services Corporation.
Position Summary: The Legal Aid support team consists of Legal Secretaries and Legal Support Specialists. (The Legal Support Specialist position combines the skills and duties of a legal assistant and legal secretary.) Legal Aid seeks to hire a Lead Legal Support Specialist to serve as a point of contact for other support staff regarding all aspects of legal support including litigation support. Duties will include being a resource for other support staff regarding legal support questions; coordinating training for support staff as needed; liaising with Legal Aid litigation directors on matters concerning litigation support and training; coordinating assignments and back up of legal support tasks; and consulting with the supervisor of the support staff team on attorney/support assignments. In addition, the Lead Legal Support Specialist will provide legal support to Legal Aid attorneys as assigned.

Required qualifications:
- The ability and desire to relate to Legal Aid’s client community
- Paralegal certificate or comparable experience
- Knowledge of litigation process, including document production and other discovery projects, document management, coding and scanning procedures, efiling/eserving, and trial procedures
- Self-motivated and a team player
- Comfort with and ability to teach in group settings as well as with individuals
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects and work under strict deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Able to learn new technologies, software systems, and processes as they are deployed
- Advanced proofreading, formatting, and editing skills. Ability to organize and maintain large volumes of electronic and paper files
Preferred qualifications:
- At least five years of legal support experience
- Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, electronic discovery processing, document imaging applications, and litigation support applications such as Case Notebook
- Typing skills of at least 65 wpm
Salary/Benefits: Non-exempt position. The starting full-time salary is up to $45,432 depending on experience. Benefits include family health insurance, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, vacation, and sick leave.
