The Mitchell Convention & Visitors Bureau, a non-profit corporation in Mitchell, SD is seeking an Events Coordinator. The Events Coordinator is responsible for prospecting for and presenting sales presentations to acquire new events. Organize the preparation of proposals and bid presentations. Develops, plans, and executes special events, promotions and services targeting specific market segments; such as sporting events, ag tourism, conventions, activities. 


The position requires but is not limited to: a strong background in sales; convincing presentation, written and verbal skills; planning and program development; volunteer management; and fundraising. The ability to handle multiple tasks and willing to work weekends and evenings, when required. 

Qualified candidates should have strong organizational and leadership skills. Program or event management experience is preferred and the ability to work with multiple committees, volunteers and outside organizations is essential. 

Requirements:

  • Sales, hospitality, and/or customer service industries preferred.
  • Good organizational skills; detail-oriented.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Willing to work weekends and evenings.
  • Knowledge of budget development.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to provide leadership.
  • Experience with volunteer organizations helpful.
  • Professional appearance.
  • A willingness to learn.
  • Use of sound judgement and decision making.
  • Able to use computer and office equipment.
