Mental Health Counselor
Search Extended. Morehead State University's Counseling & Health Services invites candidates to apply for the position of Mental Health Counselor. We are seeking a qualified applicant who is interested in providing mental health services to a diverse college-student population. Responsibilities: The Mental Health Counselor provides individual, group, and family therapy, case management services, referral, and follow-ups to acute, chronic, or moderately disturbed mentally ill clients and/or patients, and consultation with outside facilities and/or agencies. Administers and coordinates specified mental health and/or substance abuse therapy programs.
Qualifications: A PhD, Psy.D, or Masters Degree in psychology, counseling, or social work, with a minimum of three years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Must be independently licensed in the state of Kentucky as a licensed psychologist, licensed clinical social worker, licensed professional clinical counselor, or licensed psychological practitioner or obtain said independent licensure within two years of hire date. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with computers and word processing software. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team within the administrative structure of the Division of Student Affairs. Knowledge of the link between own job responsibilities and the overall goals and needs of Morehead State University with broader goals in mind. Ability to maintain stable performance and emotional control when faced with opposition, pressure, or hostility from others and/or stressful conditions. Ability to adapt easily to change, sees the value of differing positions and adapt own positions and strategies in response to new information or changes in a situation. Ability to communicate in a positive, compassionate and professional manner with patients, staff and visitors. Demonstrates a willingness to assume additional responsibilities. Ability to deliver quality service in a professional, compassionate manner with respect for the dignity of all.
Desired Qualifications: Experience working with college age students coming from culturally diverse backgrounds. Experience in grant research and writing. Licensure as Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) is preferred or willingness to obtain aforementioned certificate within a two year period of hire. Experience with psychological testing.
