The New York Association on Independent Living (NYAIL) is seeking a Peer Program Liaison to assist individuals transitioning from institutional settings to the community. The Open Doors Transition Center project is a NYAIL program funded by the NYS Department of Health’s Money Follows the Person Nursing Home Transition, Assistance, Support and Education initiative, which assures that residents of long-term care facilities are provided objective information and given the opportunity to live in a community-based setting. NYAIL is a statewide not-for-profit membership organization that works to remove barriers to full community integration of people with disabilities. NYAIL members are Independent Living Centers (ILCs), consumer controlled, cross-disability providers of advocacy, services and supports to people with disabilities.
Responsibilities

The Peer Program Liaison will report to the Open Doors Peer Director. They will work collaboratively with NYAIL Transition Center subcontractors to ensure the efficient operation of the peer outreach and support component of the program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical assistance and support to peer advocates and peer supervisors
  • Provide technical support for the administration of consumer satisfaction surveys;
  • Provide technical support for database issues
  • Perform data review and cleanup in database as needed
  • In conjunction with Peer Director, identify need for and develop trainings
  • Assist Peer Director with coordination of the annual statewide peer leadership institute
  • Assist Peer Director with coordination annual regional trainings
  • In conjunction with the program director, participate in the planning of and peer advocate participation in NYAIL’s biennial conference
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with the concepts of Independent Living, consumer control, and a strong commitment to promote and advocate for the full integration of individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring people with disabilities.
  • Ability to deliver information and trainings in multiple formats (power point, verbally, etc.).
  • Knowledge of community resources that assist people with disabilities in living independently.
  • Familiarity with databases.
  • Ability to communicate systems lingo and terminology in concrete terms.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, computer, and communication skills.
  • Personal experience with disability strongly preferred.

This is an Albany-based position. Regional and statewide travel required.
