Medical Assistant
Job Summary & Responsibilities:
The medical assistants primary responsibility is; performing phlebotomy, obtaining vital signs, navigating patients, checking in patients in a timely and efficient manner.
Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):
1. Ensure that patients rooms/pods have adequate supplies.
2. Performs inventory of supplies and equipment.
3. Performs routine maintenance of clinical equipment.
4. Greet patients in a friendly and professional manner as they enter the room/pod. Identifies patient with 2 identifiers such as full name and DOB.
5. Perform phlebotomy and vital signs on all patients; reporting any critical values to clinician immediately. If patient is in critical state, wait till help arrives (RN, MD or 911 responders). Under no circumstances you are to walk away. Ascertain as much information as possible.
6. Assists patients in wheelchairs.
7. Demonstrate knowledge and maintains close working relationships with all departments within the Medical Center in order to provide the best possible service to our patients.
8. Utilizes positive problem solving approaches to resolve problems and maintain departmental morale.
9. Assist in answering phones in a friendly and professional manner.
10. Print labels from EMR.
11. Assist when needed in picking specimens up from the tube and/or delivering specimens to the clinic.
12. Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with Medical Center policies and procedures.
13. Responds to all emergency situations in accordance with proper policies and procedures.
14. Maintains a clean and organized working area.
15. Maintains a good working relationship with coworkers and other medical personnel.
16. Maintains a personal appearance that conveys confidence and professionalism while adhering to the department attire standards.
17. Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager.
