Psychiatrist
Location: Mental Health Department at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL
Position Summary:
The position is a Psychological Health initiative under the Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (PH/TBI) program. The program seeks to address gaps in the care available for the prevalent injuries among combatants from the global war on terrorism. Through adoption of risk-based staffing models and a uniform, best practice standard of care across the Department of Defense (DoD) Military Health System, the program seeks to ensure easy, rapid access to PH and TBI care for all beneficiaries and to ensure that the transition across networks of care recognizes the unique care coordination and case management requirements for PH and TBI patients.
Duties/Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Be capable of adequately diagnose and performs psychiatric evaluations.
- Participate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed. Participation shall include, but not be limited to, appropriate medical examination, documentation, and reporting.
- Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
- Function with an awareness and application of safety procedures.
- Actively participate in the command's Performance Improvement Program. Participate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist.
- Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
- Anticipate potential problems/emergencies and make appropriate interventions.
- Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.
Work Hours:
Services shall normally be provided Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:30 pm
On-Call Services:
The HCW will be required to provide on-call services for inpatient consultation after hours once every four weeks, for a period of 7 consecutive days. This will require covering the inpatient ward and conducting rounds on patients over the weekend. The on-call duty is rotated with other Psychiatrists in the Mental Health Department.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)
- Possess board certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Association.
- Must have no less than two (2) years of experience within the last three (3) years as a full-time psychiatrist.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine as required.
- Shall maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Certification cards must display the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or Military Training Network emblem.
- Web-based classes do not meet the required standards.
