Harborview Medical Center Hospital Security has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Campus Security Sergeant. In addition to duties listed below, the focus of this position is to help ensure a secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors that promote the healing and teaching mission of Harborview Medical Center. The Security Services team has a key role in maintaining a healing environment in a manner that is consistent with UW Medicine Patients Are First Service Culture guidelines. Security Sergeants provide assistance and problem resolution for patients, staff, and visitors.
While modeling UW Medicine Service Culture guidelines, Security Sergeants ensure compliance with select policies and act as liaisons with the nursing supervisor(s), administrative personnel, law enforcement agencies and fire department agencies. Supervisors directly supervise Security Officers on all shifts; oversee work schedules and ensure adequate staffing; complete performance evaluations annually for all assigned personnel; and evaluate performance of officers to determine the need for training.
This position conducts shift briefings on relevant events and current memos; responds to calls for service and to "code” calls throughout the campus as dispatched; reviews all reports submitted by security officers for compliance and departmental regulations; and responds to complaints of disturbance and stolen property from patients, staff, or visitors. Supervisors prepare reports regarding incidents, hazards, property damage and fire and other alarms; may maintain the campus lost and found log including the area where items are maintained; maintain computer-generated and/or handwritten logs as applicable; and review and correct all reports. This position interacts with the public, responding to requests for general advice and direction. Supervisors administer first aid and respond to calls for emergency aid if needed.
This position reports to the Operations Manager and refers matters as appropriate to the Operations Manager. Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent; possession of a valid driver's license; two years of work experience as a campus police or security officer or equivalent; no previous felony convictions.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
