The UW Counseling Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Counseling Center Therapist. This position provides counseling, crisis and outreach services to a diverse population of enrolled UW Seattle students, to enhance their personal and academic success and ameliorate barriers to that success. This position also provides professional consultation to UW faculty, staff, and students regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges in order to enhance an inclusive campus climate for student success. This position will also supervise the clinical work of doctoral psychology interns.
This position involves daily intense contact with diverse UW students in psychological or academic distress. Assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and appropriate referrals - on and off campus - will be required. Ability to effectively work with underserved students is necessary. This position serves as counselor-on-duty for some portion of the week, requiring excellent crisis intervention skills. This position may provide clinical supervision for doctoral psychology interns in clinical or counseling psychology, requiring expertise in supervision models and a good understanding of risk management issues.
This person will provide consultation to a variety of departments and constituents on campus, including Health & Wellness, Career Center, Residential Life, Disability Resources for Students, Hall Health, Academic Advisors, Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity, and UWPD. The person will be part of an interdisciplinary team designed to enhance the mental health of UW students and create a healthier campus climate and to respond to mental health crises.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Psychotherapy
Provide clinical counseling for individual and group therapy to currently-enrolled UW students, including initial intake assessments and referral
Outreach and Prevention Services
Provide educational outreach presentations to student groups, faculty and staff as requested.
Teaching and Supervision
Provide individual clinical supervision of doctoral psychology interns and teach training seminars on topics of expertise and interest, including on working with international students
Crisis Intervention
Assess and intervene when students present in crisis, with problems of a complex or threatening nature.
Consultation
Provide professional consultation to UW faculty, staff, and students regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges in order to enhance an inclusive campus climate for student success.
Professional Development
Serve on departmental and campus committees and engage in continuing education opportunities to keep current in the field, including maintaining clinical license to practice in Washington

Requirements:
•Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
•Completion of an APPIC-registered internship, preferably APA-accredited.
•Licensed as a Psychologist in WA within one year of start date
•Completion of a graduate program accredited by APA
•Evidence of outstanding skills in clinical assessment, psychotherapy and counseling, crisis management, and psychoeducation
•Experience and interest in conducting outreach and preventive programming for students
•Demonstrated sensitivity to multicultural issues and proven ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups
•Two years of experience (can include internship) providing mental health counseling, preferably in a university or college counseling center
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills
•Interest in engaging in the typical tasks of a university counseling center, including short-term counseling, group counseling, crisis work, outreach, consultation with campus and supervision of trainees.
•Able to work independently and on a team
•Able to problem-solve, handle sensitive information and difficult situations tactfully and confidentially
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Desired:
•Two years post-licensure in the state of Washington or another jurisdiction
•Experience providing counseling to one or more of the following populations: Native American students, Middle Eastern students, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, genderqueer and queer-identified students
•Experience in clinical supervision of trainees
•Bilingual or multilingual
•Experience and interest in providing group counseling
