The School of Nursing Simulation Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Simulation Center. The Director of the Simulation Center reports to the Assistant Dean of Technology, Learning and Innovation. The duties and responsibilities of the Director include oversight of planning, supervision of nurse educators, coordination with scheduling, establishing course fees, operating the center and maintaining the facility, ordering supplies, establishing services, communicating with departmental Chairs and Vice-chairs for Education, hosting inter-professional trainings and working with UW colleagues, working with SIM tech and technology group, hosting continuing nursing education programs and tours.
The School of Nursing Simulation Center provides students with the opportunity to translate theoretical knowledge into a safe clinical experience using realistic patient scenarios. The Center provides students with “real-life” experiences, enhancing their confidence and providing real-time human and technological feedback about the development of their practice assessment, diagnostic skills, and communication techniques. The work of the Director is integral to the Center’s success and vital to the School’s mission and strategic goals in educating nursing professional to provide the citizens of the State of Washington with the best possible health care and preparing future leaders to improve health
Operational and Fiscal Management:
Develops policies and procedures to ensure function of the Simulation Center to support the mission, vision, and values of the UW SoN.
Designs and supervises operational infrastructure of the Simulation Center.
Oversees course scheduling and collaborates to accommodate interdisciplinary learning experiences.
Provides organized, best-practice teaching and learning environment for faculty and students.
Prepares and submits reports and budget recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Executive Team as required.
Monitors budget against expenses and adapts as needed.
Develops and maintains Simulation Center operating and capital budgets in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Develops plans for generating revenue or securing funds to purchase Simulation Center supplies, equipment, and educational materials in collaboration with UW SoN Assistant Dean for Advancement.
Staff Management:
Creates staffing plans, hires, supervises, and manages performance of staff.
Manages staff responsibilities, scheduling, assigns projects, and coordinates staff collaboration with faculty.
Conducts orientation programs for newly hired staff.
Completes regular staff evaluations.
Facilities Management:
Oversees operations of the Center and works with others with regards to maintenance, renovation, upgrades, compliance, and expansion.
Oversees purchasing/inventory/equipment maintenance by working with vendors regarding instructional material, equipment and supplies to assure most pedagogically-sound and cost-effective equipment for student use.
Coordinates the evaluation of software and equipment and recommends repair, replacement, rental and/or purchase.
Models and instructs faculty, staff, and students in the safe use of all equipment.
Maintains federal safety standards with regard to the use of equipment and hazardous waste.
Oversees, participates in, and contributes to a safe learning environment, keeps current with safety regulations, provides training and enforcement of safety regulation policies and procedures; inspects and maintain safety equipment; ensures safe storage, collection and safe disposal of hazardous waste/materials, including medications
Simulation-Based Education and Academic Support:
Uses research findings and educational strategies related to clinical simulation, nursing, and healthcare as a basis for clinical education
Participates in the application of learning strategies used in clinical simulation and learning by:
Developing and implementing a skills remediation program for students
Assuring access to scheduled, supervised practice sessions
Assisting development, enhancement, and implantation of a standardized patient program
Providing education experience for nursing and health care professionals
Consults on clinical simulation development, design, and curriculum integration for the UW SoN.
Develops, implements, and evaluates plans for the Simulation Center consistent with UW SoN curricula and strategic plan.
Serves as resource to faculty in development and evaluation of educational materials and the integration of simulation into the nursing curriculum.
Assists in developing, presenting, and evaluation programs on specific skills and/or techniques; evaluates ongoing programs and recommends appropriate modifications.
Assists faculty in identifying new concepts, techniques, and materials and incorporates these into the Center as appropriate.
Provides orientation to Simulation Center users regarding behavioral expectations, performance standards, and appropriate safety measures.
Collaboration:
Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and others to meet accreditation requirements and state and federal rules and regulations. Conducts orientation programs for students and faculty.
Oversees external and internal communication/imaging and outreach.
Works cooperatively with technology, library, and other instructional support resources to maintain up-to-date facilities and technology resources for students.
Community Outreach:
Conducts and participates in tours of the Simulation Center
Creates strategic partnerships with community agencies, local healthcare organizations, and professional associations to promote the Simulation Center
Consults on clinical simulation development, design, and curriculum integration for healthcare professional agencies and clinical agencies.
Miscellaneous:
Perform other duties as required to support the ongoing mission and strategic plan of the University of Washington School of Nursing.

Requirements:
Master's degree in Nursing or related field AND 4-5 years of applicable work experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
