Harborview Medical Center's Behavioral Health Institute has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, day shift, MENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER CLINICAL SPECIALIST or FAMILY EDUCATION SPECIALIST/CASE MANAGER. Under general supervision, the Mental Health Practitioner - Clinical Specialist provides therapy and case management services to patients and their families who are enrolled in services at Harborview’s Specialized Treatment for Early Psychosis (STEP) Program.
This position is responsible for implementing the goals of the program, which are to provide evidence based treatment to individuals experiencing psychosis including primarily Family Education and Case Management.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), Individual Resiliency Training (IRT) and Family Education Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) are other treatment modalities also included in the Clinical Specialist’s role as needed by the team.
The Clinical Specialist will be expected to be able to work with a wide variety of patients and provide behavioral health screening and treatment. This clinical specialist will be a resource to team members on issues of case management and family education about psychosis. This position will also be part of a team that provides rotating after hour services for HMHAS patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
CLINICAL AND PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides evidence based therapy to patients enrolled in services
As part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, works with patients and their social networks to assist in their recovery from mental illness
Assesses patient needs and determines appropriate interventions
Provides brief crisis interventions and therapy as applicable
Participates in case reviews as appropriate
Charts patient contact in the electronic health record in a timely manner per policy
Collects data for evaluation and quality improvement as assigned
Attends staff meetings as appropriate
Coordinates medication services with team’s medical staff
Leads or co-leads groups as assigned
Assists in the development and planning of groups relevant to the needs of clients
Prepares information requested by outside agencies such as DSHS, Social Security Administration, and Seattle Housing Authority
Participates in rotation of after hour crisis services
Provide consultation and direction to other Mental Health Practitioners, volunteers or students
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides coverage for other team members as assigned
Represents the needs and concerns of the team at relevant meetings
Meets productivity standards as appropriate
Completes payroll documentation/leave requests in timely manner
Attends Unit Meetings as required
Participates in HMC Disaster Drills and required HMC training and orientation
Provides consultation to referring practitioners and other members of the treatment community as needed to assure continuity of care for program clients
Assures regulations related to client confidentiality are maintained
Documents and reports services accurately and appropriately according to current state and county requirements
TEACHING/TRAINING:
Provides consultation and training to HMC staff and other personnel as requested
Acts as Practicum instructor as assigned
Acts as mentor for newer staff as requested
STAFF DEVELOPMENT:
Participates in individual or group supervision as negotiated with supervisor/manager
Participates in HMC ongoing educational opportunities as appropriate
Maintains appropriate State of Washington license or registration
Obtains training and education relevant to the needs of program and populations served
Obtains continuing education to stay current with trends in behavioral health, regulations and other pertinent information
MISCELLANEOUS:
Testifies in judicial proceedings in response to subpoenas
Performs other duties as assigned

Understanding and using the ten fundamental components of recovery from the national consensus statement on recovery (hope, self-direction, individualized and person-centered, empowerment, holistic, non-linear, strengths-based, peer support, respect, and responsibility) plus resiliency, added by the Washington State Transformation Project
Building a clinical relationship based upon mutuality and partnership
Documenting the process of service provision in a recovery model that meets sometimes apparently conflicting requirements such as demonstrating medical necessity
Promotion of respect, dignity and social inclusion
Cultural considerations in promoting recovery: understanding how recovery principles might be unique in different cultures

REQUIREMENTS:
A Master's Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology or social work
AND
Clinical Licensure in the State of Washington such as LICSW, LMHC, or PHD
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
