Harborview Inpatient Pharmacy has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME PHARMACY TECHNICIAN 2 – PHARMACY TECHNICIAN LIAISON (Day Shifts). The Pharmacy Technician Liaison will assist Pharmacy and Nursing Staff by performing non-professional/technical tasks related to the medication distribution process, and act as a liaison between Nursing and Pharmacy personnel. All activities shall be performed under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist.
Responsibilities:
• Complete and maintain Pharmacy Tech Check Tech Program Certification.
• As a liaison, establish and maintain a good working relationship with Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical and ancillary staff in assigned nursing units.
• Transport medications/medication orders between Nursing unit and Pharmacy as requested by Pharmacists and/or Nurses.
• As a resource, educate Nursing staff about the medication distribution system as needed.
• Maintain specific area’s Pyxis Medstations (inventory, outdates, station maintenance).
• Ensure that Pyxis machines have adequate stock levels and that medications stocked reflect the needs of the unit.
• Monitor expiration dating of compounded items stocked in Pyxis (PCAs, narcotic drips).
• Monitor ward stock supplies, educating nursing staff as needed regarding contents and appropriate use of stock.
• Update medication cassettes on nursing units based on admission/transfer/discharge information.
• Deliver and return narcotics as necessary.
• Keep Nurse Managers apprised of situations or problems which need his/her input.
• Maintain knowledge and competency with narcotic vault procedures, processing, and documentation.
• Know and follow all Pharmacy department policies.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
DESIRED:
• High school education or GED certificate, or one year of experience in clerical, stockroom, or patient care work.
• Knowledge and experience with sterile intravenous admixture practices preferred.
• Ability to be self-directed.
• Willingness to take direction.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
