Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) shapes, advances and stewards a world-class undergraduate academic experience for students at the University of Washington. Within UAA, the Pipeline Project is a K-12 outreach program that connects undergraduate students from the University of Washington with tutoring and mentoring opportunities in local and regional K-12 schools and community organizations. Working with the Pipeline Project provides a unique opportunity to learn about public education in general, as well as gain a better understanding of what it takes to cultivate partnerships between the University of Washington, K-12 schools, and students. Working with the Pipeline Project also means having fun and joining a talented team of hardworking and passionate people!
The Pipeline Project currently has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time STEM Engagement Coordinator (UW payroll title: Counselor - Student Services).
The Pipeline Project STEM Engagement Coordinator oversees the Pipeline Project’s initiatives to make the STEM field more inclusive of all peoples and ways of knowing, especially those from migrant, rural and tribal backgrounds. Specifically, the Coordinator strengthens relationships with rural and tribal schools, facilitates the seminars related to STEM outreach, organizes and conducts the STEM Alternative Spring Break program and school campus visits in partnership with the Equity in STEM AmeriCorps member, and oversees curriculum development for all outreach programs. The STEM Engagement Coordinator should expect to do periodic (two - three times a month) work away from campus, visiting school partners and attending meetings in Eastern Washington. This is a permanent position at 20 hours per week, and a minimum two-year commitment is desired.
Candidates for the STEM Engagement Coordinator position must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, gender, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of the Pipeline Project, the STEM Engagement Coordinator will:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide counseling, training and support for undergraduates interested in Pipeline Project STEM Alternative Spring Break programs.
Recruit and train undergraduate participants
Manage relationships with Eastern Washington community partners
Complete requirements associated with NASA grant
REQUIREMENTS:
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
