UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. Academic Services within UW-IT, develops and provides technologies, learning spaces, classroom support and services that enhance teaching, learning and research at the UW. This division works with UW faculty and departments to use technology to improve learning outcomes and to advance the University’s academic mission. It collaborates with other UW units and external partners to share and integrate resources and services with a focus on creating efficiencies.
UW-IT has an outstanding opportunity for a User Experience Designer (UXD).
The User Experience Designer (UXD) designs, develops, and consults on products for use in teaching, learning, research, and collaboration by members of the University of Washington community. Working directly with faculty, staff, researchers and students, the UXD applies User-Centered Design (UCD) methodologies to discover the needs and goals of their audiences, leveraging these to create and modify interactive software applications in collaboration with software engineers, researchers, user support, quality assurance staff, and technical writers from the Academic Experience Design & Delivery (AXDD) team and with other staff from UW Information Technology (UW-IT). The UXD participates in all stages of the development process, from user research to making technology recommendations and writing production code, aligning the project’s efforts to the holistic vision of user experience every step of the way. The UXD is expected to serve as a UCD champion and consultant throughout AXDD, other departments within the UW-IT and the UW community, and at times to other higher-education institutions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
While the general working hours are within Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., this individual must be willing to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of his/her colleagues. Events that will occur outside the normal work schedule include, but are not limited to; staff meetings, client consultations, and system modifications. Likewise, this position has regular stringent deadlines revolving around the academic calendar which may require extended work hours.
This position is required to report to work remotely when the UW suspends operations.
