Maintenance Worker
Position Summary
This is general maintenance for DownTown Park Forest. Work involves performance of a variety of tasks with maintenance and repair for exterior and interior common areas in DownTown Park Forest owned by the Village of Park Forest. Work includes the operation of equipment. Work is performed under direct supervision of the DownTown Property Manager.
Position Accountabilities
1. Operates various types of equipment and performs a variety of tasks and maintenance and repairs for DownTown Park Forest common areas and buildings.
2. Performs various maintenance tasks in DownTown Park Forest’s common area and facilities, including but not limited to, plumbing, snow removal, moving items / furniture, electrical, janitorial and minor landscaping.
3. Assists in Farmers Market each Saturday between May 1 and October 31.
4. Receives, stores, and orders custodial and maintenance supplies and equipment.
5. Shovels sidewalks and removes snow from DownTown Park Forest common walkways by using DownTown Park Forest equipment.
6. Ensures that equipment is used safely and in accordance with standard procedures and precautions.
7. Inspects and maintains all DownTown equipment and communicates with the DownTown office on completed work orders and equipment maintenance.
8. Promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
9. Maintains safe work areas and equipment, promptly reports work hazards, as necessary.
Reports all work related injuries immediately, complies with all safety rules.
10. Performs related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications/Skills
- Graduation from high school or GED and experience performing grounds maintenance, construction, or repair work. The Village may accept some combinations of training and experience which provide equivalent knowledge, abilities and skills.
- Knowledge of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of the practices, methods, and materials used in maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of the safety precautions and hazards of the work.
- Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license and clean driving record.
Critical Mental/Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods in all weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions with minimal oversight
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to learn a broad range of operational skills.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools and other equipment related to work.
- Ability to: carry, climb, drag heavy items, drive in in climate weather, grab, grip, lift heavy and/or awkward equipment, read maps, use protective equipment, use a radio, read and follow instructions and technical materials, reason, sit, stand for extended periods and walk.
Working Conditions
- Much of the work is performed outdoors and mandates driving, walking, lifting and climbing. In these cases, severe weather extremes may be encountered.
- The job incumbent should exercise common sense and take necessary breaks, practice proper body alignment, and alert a supervisor of any discomfort, as necessary.
Part-time – 20-25 hrs per week
Work hours – 11:00 am – 3:00 pm M-F. Saturdays 6:30 am – 12:30 pm May – October.
