Academic Advisor
Job Description
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Advising, the Academic Advisor serves as a full-time (calendar year) administrative/professional faculty member in the Pamplin College of Business. The major areas of responsibility include academic advising for undergraduate students in all six business majors (75%) and performing duties related to new student orientation, ongoing training and professional development, and tasks relevant to special talents or areas of interest (20%). Additional job duties may include department liaison tasks and assisting colleagues as needed (5%).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, education, counseling, or a related field coupled with
training and or experience which may equate to an advanced degree
- Working knowledge of academic advising offices, programs, policies and software
- Previous professional student-focused experience in a higher education setting (e.g.
academic advising, career advising, student affairs, etc .)
- Previous experience working with diverse student populations
- Excellent communication/presentation skills
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality and
discretion
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business, education, counseling, higher education administration, or
related field
- Previous professional academic advising experience in a business discipline
- Experience using student information systems such as Banner and Navigate
- Knowledge of university academic policies and procedures
- Member of NACADA or similar professional organization
