Qualifications:
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below. An example of an acceptable qualification for this position: Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution in criminal justice/criminology, social work, law enforcement, behavioral and social services or related field; with six (6) months experience in probation preferred; experience in criminal justice, corrections, law enforcement, social service or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. ORAS certification and the ability to read a NORIS/LEADS printout preferred.
Licensure or Certification Requirements:
Must have a valid State of Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability in accordance with county policy.

Inherently Hazardous or Physically Demanding Working Conditions
The employee may be exposed to, must negotiate, use, or work in vicinity of : upset or emotionally distraught individuals; individual convicted of crimes; individuals with substance abuse and/or mental health problems; hazardous driving conditions (e.g., snow, sleet, ice, etc.); chemicals commonly found in an office environment (e.g., toner, corrections fluid, etc.); frequently lifts objects ten (10) pounds or less; frequently carries objects ten (10) pounds or less; occasionally pushes objects twenty (20) pounds or less; occasionally pulls objects twenty (20) pounds or less.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light work.
Job Description and Worker Characteristics: Job duties in order of importance
Essential Functions of the position: For the purposes of 42 USC 12101
1. Provides community supervision of adult offenders released by the Common Pleas Court on probation; conducts investigation for presentence, completes ORAS assessments and case plans, probation violation pre-release and all other matters or circumstances within the jurisdiction of the Common Please Court and prepares the timely and appropriate written reports as directed. Furnishes to each offender under supervision a written statement of the conditions of probation and instructs the offender regarding same. Maintains contact with offenders (e.g., office appointments, telephone, home visits, employment visits, treatment/service provider agencies, jail, etc.). Maintains case notes and probation case files; prepares, presents and/or testifies at hearings. Prepares court documents for filing; develops, maintains, and improves working relationships with community corrections agencies and other community agencies. Maintains contact with law enforcement agencies and probation departments; corresponds with probationer, treatment/service provider agencies, courts, etc.
2. Conducts office and field contacts with offenders. Monitors compliance with laws and conditions of supervision and makes appropriate referrals. Monitors treatment progress, prepares case plans and attends court hearings. Conducts urinalysis screenings, verifies financial payments and verifies community service hours.
3. Serves on and/or facilitates committees and group sessions.
4. Performs clerical duties related to position; prepares case plans, prepares files, and completes community control violation reports.
5. Conducts investigations and prepares criminal background checks. Conducts information gathering interviews, compiles prior record information, compiles personal background information and prepares presentencing report. Makes written and oral recommendations in regards to sentencing and/or violations.

1. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
2. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA standards that pertain to essential functions.
3. Performs any and all other related duties as assigned or directed in order to promote further and ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Wood County Adult Probation Department.

Knowledge of: probation work methods and philosophies: interviewing; available community resources and services; public relations; budgeting and financial accountability; departmental goals and objectives; departmental policies and procedures; criminology; security practices and procedures; investigative techniques; behavioral social sciences; counseling; alcohol and drug abuse and treatment legal process; federal, state, and local laws; office practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling.
Skill in: use of modern office equipment; use of urinalysis equipment; motor vehicle operation.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships and establish and maintain good rapport with clients and their families. Speak before technical and non-technical audiences and maintain confidentiality.
