Histotechnologist
Seeking a full time Histotechnologist or Histotechnician to join our progressive, fast paced, local, independently owned laboratory in Billings, MT.
JOB SUMMARY: Primary responsibilities include performing all duties required for histologic preparation of tissues for microscopic examination and providing assistance to the pathologists. The duties include accessioning specimens, operating tissue processors, microtomes and stainers, embedding tissue samples, preparing frozen section specimens, maintaining equipment and gross exam of surgical pathology specimens. While performing dissection/grossing duties, the histology technician is under the direct supervision of a board certified Pathologist. Duties may also include the procurement of tissues for research, tissue banking, or other specialized studies as necessary. The duties require close attention to detail to produce high quality slides.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: At least one year experience in histology is preferred. Applicant must demonstrate familiarity with anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, computer skills and general laboratory knowledge, as well as, the safety and infection control requirements of the position. Previous hospital laboratory experience a plus.
EDUCATION: Minimum college course work in the areas of biology, chemistry and sciences to meet CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing, as well as, knowledge and theory of pathologic disease processes, gross and microscopic anatomy, medical terminology, and procedural skills which relate to the field of surgical pathology.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Histotechnician or histotechnologist certification preferred. Bachelor's degree from an accredited program preferred.
Other: Applicant must have a flexible work schedule to include early mornings, and some Saturdays. You must be organized with the ability to perform duties with exceptional accuracy and efficiency in order to cope with high work volumes along with the ability to work well with others. You will perform duties as assigned by the Laboratory Operations Director and Pathologists. You must be able to represent the laboratory in a positive and professional manner.
